Doesn't perfectly suit me by artyhedgehog. but it is free. "Norton Commander" interface, the split window style, is a wonderful way to browse - and manage - your filesystem. I really appreciate that muCommander is both cross-platform and available in a portable (USB stick) friendly version: Next time, while tweaking a new Linux distribution, I know which app I'll download after the first boot :-)

Very nice, basically does all I want. I understand that I can withdraw my consent at anytime. Lacks such essentiall features as showing folders size on spacebar press and right mouse button selection. Option+F opens file menu regardless of which pane you're in (currently opens only if user is in top pane)

Well, a good file manager is still my most wanted missing application for the Mac. The latter's GUI is perhaps a bit easier on the eyes, that's probably due to the theme and the icons on the toolbar. muCommander is one of these, and happens to be an open source alternative. Every time I open the app I have to set everything up again. I really like it! Works on java, so don't expect fast start or work. Very well job ! I just discovered the earlier version of this software; thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I have to say, this is an outstanding app! I would prefer a similar dual-pane mode in Finder, but as a free solution, this is fantastic. The name of this program is muCommander and all you need to run it is a computer with an operating system supporting Java - Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris, Linux, OS/2 and all the rest...Its last version available is 0.8beta2, and the last stable release is 0.7.1, but I got the beta for more than two weeks now and it works perfectly, so I see no reason for you not to get this one.
