Straightaway, this middle grade book has two things that will appeal to its readers: time travel and pets. Many kids movies, particularly animated films, include jokes and references to appeal to parents and carers. I don’t usually quote the books I read, but this was one of my favourite passages (from Chapter 8): “Can you see that star there, the brightest one?” He was pointing not straight up, but more towards the horizon where a bright, bluish star was flickering.
