La Cage aux Folles is a fine French-Italian farce with flamboyant, charming characters and deep laughs. Sure this has it's over-the-top moments + characters (Albin's hysterics) but it succeeds at gently poking fun at all of that, and does so with respect and admiration. For best results set it up in French with subtitles and it is a tribute to the film itself that after a while these just blend in to the whole wonderful package.
