An important and beautiful book. The children are once again front and centre of this author’s second book. A compelling and moving read which addresses the topic of domestic abuse in a remarkably sensitive way for a younger reader (recommend for upper KS2). Good development of friendships, trust and a bit of education about stars thrown in too. Despite its topic, it's completely suitable for middle grade readers and will enable an important discussion to be had. But I don't want to be the kind that looks for old stars that have already been burning for millions of years. Children in this world can live such tough lives, and this is a glimpse into one of the hardest lives to live in modern Britain.
